This session provides a comprehensive exploration of the evolving landscape of digital and computational pathology. We'll begin with an overview of the Digital Pathology Association's global community, key initiatives, and resources. Dr. Bethany Williams will illuminate the critical importance of patient and public involvement (PPIE) for successful technology implementation, offering practical strategies for engagement, best practices, and a discussion of both opportunities and challenges. Dr. Chhavi Chauhan will address the essential ethical principles and frameworks guiding digital pathology, examining their impact on patients and healthcare. The session will conclude with a review of emerging standards and guidelines, culminating in a clear call to action for all stakeholders to foster a trusted and equitable future.

Join the dialogue between users (pathologists), manufacturers of digital pathology and AI-related in vitro diagnostic devices, and regulators to exchange on changing user needs with regard to the latest technical and regulatory challenges for clinical whole slide imaging.
The platform is organized in the context of the IMI-funded project bigpicture (www.bigpicture.eu), which aims at creating a central repository of digital pathology slides to boost the development of artificial intelligence.
Topics:
Development of an ISO standard on the use of AI-Based Image Analysis in Digital Pathology diagnostics
Implications of the AI Act
All interested ECDP attendees are welcome to attend on site.

For its session, the Japanese Society for Digital Pathology (JSDP) will have two presentations:
Enhancing Patient Understanding of Pathology: A Japanese Advocacy Trial
Yuka Kitamura
Digital pathology is rapidly transforming diagnostic workflows, but its potential to empower patients remains underexplored. In Japan, where digital pathology is still emerging, we have launched a patient advocacy project aimed at using digital pathology as na educational tool to help patients understand their disease and treatment options. By visualizing pathological findings and offering clear explanations based on digital slides, we aim to reduce anxiety, build trust, and encourage shared decision-making. This presentation will introduce the goals, structure, and early outcomes of this initiative, demonstrating how digital pathology can contribute not only to diagnostic accuracy but also to patient empowerment and engagement in their own care.

Basics and biomedical applications of tissue clearing technologies
Etsuo A.Susaki
Nutshell: Advanced tissue clearing and 3D imaging now allow visualization of biological structures and cellular networks in whole organs. These techniques benefit fields like neuroscience and cancer research. My presentation will explore how these developments transform biological imaging and analysis.
